Equipper Camp and Eye Surgery…one crazy week

We have had one crazy week. Last Monday I decided I would go with my husband to a camp that was taking place where he works. It was kind of a last minute thing and the reason I decided to go was because I wanted us to all be together as a family before he left for his mission trip to Nicaragua on July 12.

The kids were happy to tag along to this Equipper Camp and it turned out to be a blast for all of us, as usual! The purpose of the camp100_0936 was to ‘equip’ the teen and pre-teen kids to be Intense, Intentional, and Surrendered in their walk with the Lord. We did special projects such as interviewing different age groups about their walk with the Lord and passing out bottles of water with Bible verses thru out the community. This picture shows my oldest giving a mail carrier a cold bottle of water with an encouraging scripture attached.

Thursday was the last day of camp and my husband started having some trouble with his right eye. He said he was losing sight in the corner of it. He called the dr’s office but his dr was on vacation, and since Mark was heading out of the country the next week the receptionist scheduled him for two weeks. That was a mistake.

Friday it got worse and all of a sudden at 5pm he had lost about 1/2 of his vision in that eye. We had the on call ophthalmologist meet us at his office and he immediately sent my husband to the hospital. He had a detached retina and needed surgery pronto!

By the time we got the kids dropped off and to the hospital (which was 1 1/2 hrs away, our local hospital doesn’t perform this procedure) his retina had crossed the center of his eye. So “the horse was out of the barn” as the dr said. It was still necessary to do surgery quickly but unfortunately the damage may be irrevocable.

Surgery was performed Saturday and the attending physician gave us more hope than some of the other dr’s we’d spoken with. He stated that about 85% of these cases regain some of their vision. This was fantastic news because when it happened to my husbands Dad he lost his vision in that eye.

Hubby is recovering here. He didn’t get to go 100_0966 with his team to Nicaragua. We were very disappointed about that, but we know God is in control of it and we praise Him that this happened before leaving the country.

It will be some time before we’ll know how much of his vision he’ll recover and we’re praying it will be a good outcome.

Now that I’ve had a chance to stop and catch my breath, I realize I didn’t do the TOS Blog walk this week or last week. Oh well, maybe I’ll catch up next week :-)

Stopping by from the Homeschool Crew (new this year).

So sorry to hear about your husband! I have never heard of such a thing. I am writing this down, and will pray for him. Please update when you know anything.

Thank you Denise! We really appreciate everyone praying. A detached retina doesn't typically occur in someone his age unless there has been trauma to the head. But he has had eye surgery in the past and his father had a detached retina so both of these factors increased his risk. He's resting and recovery well so far, we're just continuing to pray. Funny how you make plans and then something comes along and wipes them all out, all you can do is sat back and smile, realizing God is in control. :-)

You are so right about that (our plans being "changed" by God's control)! I am adding a separate prayer list to my notebook for TOS Crew. I am going to try my best to keep up on praying for the Crew.

Thanks for stopping by my blog too.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's difficulty with his eye. I'll pray that he recovers his vision and the Lord provides for all your family's needs while he recovers.
