If AAR had been a little quicker getting their Level 3 ready, we would still be using it. He did very well with the first two levels but we did skip a lot of the activities because they were a little immature for him. So, depending on your childs age, I highly recommend AAR. I'm still using AAR and AAS with my younger two children (ages 6 & 8). I strongly suspect my 8 year old is dyslexic and I plan to stick with AAR in hopes of helping him overcome his difficulties quicker. Since you will be switching from Barton, you may want to contact All About Learning to find out exactly where your daughter will need to start. We decided to start at the beginning and he just zoomed through the first level. It really is an excellent program and it is just as good as Barton, in my opinion, because it uses the same basic method and tools. I just recently started using AAR with my 10 yr old son (we were previously using Barton) and it's working fine for him. I don't use a lot of the extra activities because they're somewhat childish AND because at this point he's getting it without the need for extra help-plus we're doing AAS alongside AAR, so doing both is pretty intensive (which is what he needs). I believe AAR offers a pretty nice guarentee so it wouldn't hurt to give them a try. Let me know if you have other questions, I'd be happy to help if I can.Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16637528166818931113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1391855893754462627.post-19348279135869661782013-01-17T11:31:19.954-05:002013-01-17T11:31:19.954-05:00Do you think an 11 year old boy would still enjoy ...Do you think an 11 year old boy would still enjoy AAR1? The AAR Level 1 is very much a young child program (not that you couldn't use it with an older child--it could be done). It has that fun aspect built in to it. Barton on the other hand, is more work and less fluff. AAR uses the tiles, just like Barton and the idea of using multi-sensory learning is the same. I do see many similarities but until we get into the later levels of AAR I won't know how to compare them. I trust both programs with my children's future reading success and I would highly recommend AAR for the early learner and Barton for the older learner. I hope that answers your question(s), if not feel free to ask more :)Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16637528166818931113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1391855893754462627.post-88014535641493347252012-04-28T12:22:59.311-04:002012-04-28T12:22:59.311-04:00Hi, Great review! Seriously, because your children are all little. I have older ones..teens and one little, now, so I feel like I can even begin to focus on my husband:) Really, when the kids were younger, we just worked so hard getting through each day. We would get everyone to bed and lie down and laugh at each other...like "Oh, my gosh, we did it. Is it Friday, yet?" I love my husband, but I feel like we did get in a rut, just being work partners. He says No, we didn't. But whatever. I did:) I like this time, when I have enough energy to think about "us" again. And, deep down, I suppose I have done Chapter 2 enough to make it though!! :) I will say, it seems more important these days to be a "good" mom than to be a "good" wife. That is backwards! So happy to see you on here.Heatherhttp://faithfamilyandfun.comnoreply@blogger.com
